Today's Choice for Tomorrow's Future

Principal Marlene Straughan

Hurricane FAMILY,

I am honored and privileged to be your principal at Mount Dora High School. Mount Dora has always been close to my heart and I’m so excited to continue this journey with you. After working as a deputy sheriff with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, I became a career-switcher in 2008 and started my educational career teaching social studies at MDHS. It has been a true blessing to return ‘home’ to where it all began.

This year is a very special year for MDHS. We are celebrating our 100th anniversary! Our school opened its doors in 1921, and held the first graduation with the Class of 1922. What a special time to commemorate this historic and monumental occasion. As an athletic coach for many years, I understand the importance and value of teamwork, so combined with our 100th anniversary, our theme is “We are One Team, 100 Years in the Making!” You will see and hear this throughout our school. We firmly believe in the concept of working together and look forward to a fun-filled year where hard work, dedication and school pride is evident throughout our campus.

We are excited to have our community partners and stakeholders visit CANE Country and see the amazing things our school has to offer. Thank you again for your continued support of Mount Dora High School. Go CANES!

With Hurricane Pride,

Marlene L. Straughan
