💰 WHAT IS FAFSA?
FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Completing it can help students qualify for:
🎓 Federal & state grants
💵 Scholarships and institutional aid
📚 Federal student loans
💼 Work-study opportunities
🏫 Other college financial aid
WHO SHOULD COMPLETE IT?
👉 EVERY senior planning education or training after high school should consider completing the FAFSA — even if you think your family earns too much to qualify for aid.
📅 CLASS OF 2027
Seniors graduating in May 2027 will complete the 2027–28 FAFSA for college beginning Fall 2027.

Class of 2028... Important changes in Bright Futures.

This week in Cane Country!

MDHS SENIORS — COMMON APP IS OPEN! 🧡🎓
Class of 2027, college application season has officially begun! If a 4-year college or university is part of your plan after graduation, now is the time to get started.
🌐 WHAT IS COMMON APP?
The Common Application (Common App) is an online college application platform that allows you to use one main application to apply to more than 1,100 colleges and universities. Instead of starting from scratch for every school, you can complete your profile, activities, academic information and personal essay once, then submit applications to participating colleges.
📅 IMPORTANT DEADLINES
There is NOT one universal Common App deadline. Every college sets its own deadlines, so students MUST check the requirements for each school on their list.
Typical application timelines include:
⏰ Early Action / Early Decision: Often October–November
📚 Regular Decision: Often January–February
🔄 Rolling Admission: Applications are reviewed as they are received until programs fill.
⚠️ Don't wait for the deadline! Some universities have earlier priority deadlines for scholarships, honors programs and other opportunities.
✅ SENIORS — START NOW!
1️⃣ Create or log into your Common App account.
2️⃣ Begin building your college list.
3️⃣ Complete your profile and activities sections.
4️⃣ Start your Common App personal essay.
5️⃣ Check EACH college for additional essays or supplemental questions.
6️⃣ Review testing, recommendation and transcript requirements.
7️⃣ Record every college's admission AND scholarship deadlines.
💡 MDHS TIP: Give yourself plenty of time for essays and recommendation requests. Your counselor and teachers may need to submit materials as part of your application, so don't wait until the last minute!

The school and the district thank the Mount Dora Community Trust for their generous donation of $1.3 million toward this $6.1 million project, which modernized the historic 1961 facility and resolved longstanding drainage issues to better serve students, athletes, families, and the Mount Dora community.
